Summary
Low STSE
The low STSE, which represents the integrated ASE from the
laser, allows characterization of deep-well devices, or devices
with very high polarization extinction ratio.
Thin-film-based Tunable Laser Source
DWDM Applications demand accurate measurements based on
a stable light source with high wavelength resolution. The
Model 601 Tunable Laser Sources (TLS) leverages industry-
leading precision thin-film filter technology to provide a new
benchmark for wavelength settability, resolution, line width and
optical noise.
In the 1980’s, dBm Optics’ partner Koshin developed new
processes for highly precise, consistent thin film filters. Today,
all the leading thin-film filter suppliers rely on Koshin’s
patented technique. In the 1990’s, Koshin’s ion-plasma coating
technology creates a new standard in long term stability and
consistency. Also, specially developed YAG welding process
assure excellent performance over temperature variation and
time.
With the Model 601, TLS, dBm Optics and Koshin provide this
technology in the form of the highest wavelength resolution
TLS available.
Wide Tuning Range
With standard tuning range of 105 nm, the 601 can cover the
full C and L bands.
High Wavelength Resolution
The filter-based design allows setting resolution for wavelength
of 0.01pm (10 fm).
Built-In Variable Attenuator
This eliminates the SMSR, SSE (Signal to Spontaneous
Emission), STSE (Signal to total spontaneous emission) and
noise problems usually associated with laser sources that use
laser diode current control to attenuate the optical output.
Alternatively, this built in attenuator eliminates the need for an
external attenuator.
Coherence Control
The 601’s Coherence Control can line-broaden the source,
achieving noise reduction in etalon-containing optical paths.
This can be especially critical for PDL measurement, where
even low levels of optical noise can wreak havoc with
measurement integrity. Coherence Control can also have very
beneficial effects when multiple flat connections (FC/PC or
FC/UPC) connections exist in the optical path.
